 04 Recipe Nook

The Recipe Nook reimagines the tradition of passing down recipes for those with strong cultural ties to engage with others from different cultural backgrounds right in the comfort of their neighborhood. With features such as a communal exchange box, a community board, and pre-set recipe cards, it preserves and celebrates the richness of the participants' cultures and culinary traditions.

Check out my Medium post for full documentation of my group's process. Big thanks to my team, Professor Cayla Key, and TAs Maya Kaneko and Emi White!

FLAVOR PICKS

We chose a custom template for the nook featuring four flavor elements (spicy, savory, vegan, and sweet) to guide participants while preserving the intrigue of a new recipe.

EMBRACING ALL NEIGHBORS

Engraved on the doors of the nook are languages that translate  “welcome” which have been chosen to reflect the diverse population of the greater Seattle area.

The interior encourages any resident to take a recipe while providing their own to preserve both integrity and the life cycle of the nook. Additionally, the community board offers a space for open communication, enabling everyone to comment and interact freely.

FLIMSY TO STURDY

While the final product is better equipped to withstand the elements, cardboard played a crucial role in refining the design through multiple iterations.
